Intensive Counselling FAQs

What happens after we have finished the intensive couple’s counselling?

Intensive couple’s counselling provides couples with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their relationship and to decide how to move forward. Most couples will need additional counselling to continue to rebuild their relationship. Couples may continue therapy, however, if this option is not appropriate for you due to location, we will help you find a therapist in your area.

The therapist will review the intake forms and then conduct a 30-minute intake interview with each partner by telephone.

Is intensive couple’s counselling right for everyone?

There are some cases in which intensive couple’s counselling is not recommended. These include:

  • Each partner has very different goals for therapy (one partner wants to work on reconciliation while the other partner wants to separate).
  • Current infidelity (one partner is still seeing the affair partner at the time of therapy; the recent discovery of infidelity does not preclude intensive couple’s counselling as long as the affair has been ended)
  • Current substance abuse by one or both partners
  • Domestic violence

The screening process is designed to determine if intensive couple’s counselling is right for you.
