There are some cases in which intensive couple’s counselling is not recommended. These include:
- Each partner has very different goals for therapy (one partner wants to work on reconciliation while the other partner wants to separate).
- Current infidelity (one partner is still seeing the affair partner at the time of therapy; the recent discovery of infidelity does not preclude intensive couple’s counselling as long as the affair has been ended)
- Current substance abuse by one or both partners
- Domestic violence
The screening process is designed to determine if intensive couple’s counselling is right for you.
